LAUNCH WEEK!

Launch week is here!  We've been working hard to get our app ready to launch.  We still have a few little kinks to work out, so we didn't feel that we were yet ready to put our app on the Play store (though we are getting very close!).  Therefore, for our launch, we wanted to get feedback from a random sample of users and have them use our app.  We anticipate two main uses for our app: driving in the car and playing music at group hangouts.  It was nice and sunny this weekend, so we decided to find groups of people hanging out on Wilbur Field to test our app.  We walked around the field with a Jambox and asked random people to use our app.

We gave our testers the basic background on the app and then said, "go!"  It was really useful to observe people use our app without giving them a lot of information about the app.  Since we have stressed simplicity and ease of use from the beginning, it is important to us that our app be intuitive and not require a lot of info for a first-time user.

Overall, we got a lot of really positive feedback!  Users in general thought our app was "really cool," an "awesome idea," and that they would "definitely use it."  We also got some great constructive feedback.  Some trends in the feedback we found were:

  • It would be nice to be able to delete songs from the Jam
  • Also potentially see numbering of songs in the Jam
  • It's hard to tell when a song is added to a Jam
    • Add some sort of visual feedback when a song is added, or grey out a song that's already in the jam
  • Add ability to add multiple songs or a whole album to the Jam at once
  • Maybe you don't want to share all of your music?
  • Make the top tab bar the same color scheme as the media player buttons (i.e. red/grey)
  • Make the keyboard go away more intuitively
Our users also found some new bugs:
  • Bottom of list view in Jam is cut off
  • If you accept someone to your jam multiple times, when the person added a song it gets added that many times
  • Sometimes the keyboard shows up upon a client joining the Jam

We also timed how long each group used our app for.  The average use time was 12 minutes and 2 seconds.  We were happy to see that people were engaged in our app for an extended period of time!
